Headaches? Your Doctor Can Help You More Than You Think

4 Things You May Not Know About Hearing Aid Batteries

If you have recently been introduced to hearing aids due to excessive hearing loss, then you may want to know all that you can about the technology, especially when it comes to the batteries. After all, without the batteries, you won't be able to work your hearing aids. There are a few things that you should know about hearing aid batteries to ensure that there isn't any confusion about how to use them properly.

  1. Understanding Sizes: When you receive hearing aids from your doctor, he or she will provide you with a size number. This number is also associated with a color. Each color indicates a different size, so even if you have trouble remembering your size number, you can at least try and remember what color your hearing aids require.
  2. Understanding Battery Lifespan: Hearing aid batteries, unfortunately, don't often last over a week, which means that you want to be sure that you have a good supply of them around the house. Of course, the lifespan of your batteries depends on your type of hearing aid. For example, digital hearing aids will require more power because their parts are more complicated than those of analog hearing aids. Digital hearing aids will probably last you about 5 days whereas analog hearing aids will probably last you 7. If you notice that your hearing aids are losing power much more quickly than this, then you want to be sure that you have your hearing aids evaluated to see if there are any faulty parts that could be causing problems.
  3. Understanding the Tabs: All hearing aid batteries have a tab that you have to pull to activate the battery. It is so important that you do not pull this tab on batteries that you are not going to be using right away. Once the tab has been pulled and the battery has been activated, you cannot deactivate it. This means your battery is going to run out of power before you are even ready to use it.
  4. Understanding Where to Purchase: There are many places in which you can purchase hearing aid batteries. The best place is most often online where you will have a wide selection to choose from. However, you can also purchase hearing aid batteries from a drug store or your doctor's office.

By understanding some of the basics of hearing aid batteries, you can better understand how they work and how to properly use them.
