Headaches? Your Doctor Can Help You More Than You Think

Surprising Signs You May Need Glasses Or Contact Lenses

Very often, problems with a person's eyesight develop slowly and over time, which can make it difficult for someone to know when they need glasses or contact lenses. They may become accustomed to various challenges when it comes to focusing while reading or watching movies, and reason that as long as they can see traffic signals, their eyesight must be fine. However, getting glasses or contact lenses at the first sign of trouble can ensure that your sight is always at its best. Consider a few surprising signs that you may need glasses or contact lenses.

1. Your eyes get red, dry, and irritated.

If you cannot explain red or irritated eyes because of allergies or other external factors, these may be signs that your eyes are working overtime to focus throughout the day. The eyes focus by changing shape just slightly, and as they do they need more moisture to keep them comfortable as they move in the eye sockets. When the eyes do this excessively because your vision is becoming blurry, you may not be able to keep up with the production of moisture that is needed to keep your eyes comfortable. If you notice your eyes are consistently red, dry, or irritated, have your eyesight checked.

2. You need to adjust the distance of reading material

Your eyes should be able to focus on their own to read material that is within a reasonable distance to your face. If they cannot, you will notice that reading material is fuzzy and unfocused if it's too close to your face or not close enough. If you notice that are constantly having to adjust the distance of your reading material, your eyes are not focusing properly. This is a sign that you need to have your eyes checked as they're not working as they should, and ignoring this can actually cause your eyesight to become worse over time.

3. You get unexplained headaches

Your eyes change shape to focus by using muscles behind them. When they need to use these muscles too often, this in turn can cause headaches and even aches around the neck and shoulders. These aches can radiate around the eyes but can also travel to the back of the head or to the temples and forehead.

If you cannot explain your headaches because of stress, food allergies, or any other reason, pay attention to your eyesight. If you notice your vision seems a bit fuzzier than usual then chances are your headaches are due to overexertion of the eyes.
